Hello to you all, Using this howto: http://howtoforge.com/how-to-run-your-own-name-server-with-ispconfig-3-and-fast-hosts I configured ispconfig 3 as a nameserver. I used this site: http://manual.ispconfig3.co.uk/ setting up some websites with domains I own. I asked my domainregistrar to create a glue record to use my servers ip as ns1 and ns2. Checking this I see the names of the nameserver. I'm using a Thompson gateway ip 192.168.2.254. The server is connected at the gateway through a router 192.168.1.1 this has to change when everything is functioning. Eth0 primary dns is the ip adres of the gateway. Otherwise I cannot connect at the internet. I tried putting servers ip as dns1 and dns2 at eth0 but then there is no connection. Are there other settings I have to change in ispconfig or at eth0, or do I maybe have to open a port on the gateway? With kind regards Ad.
I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you did. Can you describe it in more detail? Are you referring to /etc/resolv.conf, to your BIND configuration, to ISPConfig, etc.?
I followed the howto's exactly. I own domains amtand.nl and ceciliahandel.nl I wanted the nameservers on ns1.amtand.nl and ns2.amtand.nl both on the same ip-adres I asked the registrar to create the glue record. Doing a dns check I cannot reach amtand.nl There are no nameservers at the child. Checking at the registrar the nameservers are visible. Trying to reach ceciliahandel The nameservers of domeinbalie (=registrar) appear. I don't reffer at the Bind, ISPConfig etc settings, but at the settings made in networkmanagement at eth0 Settings there are: standard gateway 192.168.1.1 nameserver 192.168.2.254 servername SRV1997.tandartsen.net and it's ip-adres 192.168.1.05 I don't know if something is wrong at my settings or at the registrar settings.
Hello Falko, I'm using centos 5.5 X86_64. This is in /etc/resolv.conf: ; generated by /sbin/dhclient-script Where can I find the network configuration file? Is this the file? # Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller DEVICE=eth0 BOOTPROTO=none HWADDR=40:61:86:05:37:98 ONBOOT=yes TYPE=Ethernet USERCTL=no IPV6INIT=no PEERDNS=no DHCP_HOSTNAME=srv1997.tandartsen.net IPADDR=192.168.2.100 NETMASK=255.255.255.0 GATEWAY=192.168.2.254 Maybe the problem is the gateway, the ip adress I used for ns1 and ns2 is the ip-adres from the gateway, looked it up with what is myip. Think I will try to build the server again, connected at the Thompson gateway. With kind regards Ad.
Hello again, Still strugling with my server. I reinstalled everything. Nameserver in resolv.conf is set to: 8.8.8.8 Eth0 IP-adress: 192.168.2.10 Netmask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.2.254 (=IP-adress from the Thompson gateway) Looking in ISPConfig I see in System-server config this: IP 192.168.2.10 =>has this to be the IP I see with whatsmyip, or is this correct? Netmask 255.255.255.0 Gateway 192.168.0.1 => has this to be 192.168.2.254? Hostname SRV1997.tandartsen.net Nameservers 192.168.0.1,192.168.0.2 => has this to be 8.8.8.8 and only one nameserver? I noticed in the howtoforge a perfect server you used two nameservers ip's during installation of centos 5.5, are those random ip's? I used there 8.8.8.8 Do I need to change the IP-adress in System-Server IP adress? Trying to create a website at Sites-Website-Add new website: I see now an asterix. Do I have to use 192.168.2.10? Is it easier to use the registrars nameservers, or should I use No-ip or MyDNS? Again a lot of questions. I liked the manual, it is becoming clearer now, but for a novice it is still difficult, but I'm convinced I'm getting there. With kind regards, Ad.
192.168.2.10 is correct. If your router has the internal IP 192.168.2.254, then yes. You can use the IPs from the tutorial, these are working nameservers. 8.8.8.8 is a Google nameserver. Usually your router runs a nameserver as well, so you could also use 192.168.2.254. OR use the nameservers from your ISP. It's a good idea to add 192.168.2.10. It's easier to use your registrar's nameservers.
Thank you for your reply Falko, I managed to connect to my server setup using the registrars nameservers and referring through an A-account at the registrar at my server. The manual put me on the right track. A hurdle has been token. With kind regards, until other questions Ad.
