I have followed the Virtual Users And Domains With Postfix, Courier, MySQL And SquirrelMail (Ubuntu 9.04) howto. I am able to send a welcome email to my users and the mailboxes are created as they should. When I try to login either with squirrelmail I get Connection Dropped by Imap Server. In mail.log I just get imapd:LOGIN FAILED, [email protected] imapd authentication error, Input/output error The username and password I enter is correct but I can't seem to figure it out. There is no authmysql error reports so that means that it can connect to the database fine i assume. Please help
I have removed courier with aptitude remove courier-authdaemon courier-imap courier-imap-ssl courier-pop courier-pop-ssl and installed again with the same way. My configuration files where unchanged so I didn't have to edit anything. i tried login after reinstalling but I still get the same result both in Squirrelmail and in mail.log What am I doing wrong?
Well, I kept having this same problem. it always boiled down to me as either 1) forgetting to send mail to the new user to open the inbox, 2) forgetting to set up the domain or misspelling it, 3) Forgetting to set the password to encrypt all though it would sometimes just state incorrect password. usually boils down to operator error. Unfortunately all my problems are ones I create for myself. But then I learn to fix them and am better off for it. jda
falko: Is there anything I can check and let you know of the output that could help you understand the problem? jdakhayman: I have send loads of welcome mails to the user and the maildir is created properly. When you say open the inbox do you mean that I should navigate to /home/vmail/domain.com/user/inbox? The domain is setup properly and not misspelled and the password is encrypted as it should.
It's hard to track down where an input/output error is coming from. IT could even be a problem with your hardware (e.g. your hard drive).
