I’m planning on setting up my own web server. I’ve successfully installed it a couple of time thanks to the FAQ’s here. I am planning to add a permanent site plus a couple of experimental sites and am wondering if my initial setup is correct. Thus far the new plan is: Internet -> ADSL Router (port 80 forwarded) -> server The router maintains the IP <-> domain name relationship thanks to DynDNS and ddclient updates the server from the router. On installing debian should the server be named debian.localhost.localdomain or mydomain.com Given at a later date I will add a couple of different domain later using ISPConf etc. and MySQL are there any caveats that I should be aware of?
I'd use a real domain. The best thing is to have a spare domain that you use only for technical purposes, not for web sites, email, etc.
