I tried to get the Debian/Vsftpd/Mysql howto to work using a CentOS box I have (where I can't change OS :( ) but I'm missing libpam-mysql, does anyone know of a way to get vsftpd to authenticate against a mysql database in RHEL/CentOS? I looked around in yum, rpmforge, and rpmfind.net and didn't find anything.

Alternately, is there a better way to do this in Proftp? I'd rather stick with vsftpd, it's already up and running, but only working with system users.

    Thanks,

I've just written a tutorial about virtual users with Pure-FTPd on CentOS 5.0. I'll publish it in the next days.

Why did you choose PureFTP, is it because the others don't work? Vsftpd is the one that ships with RHEL/CentOS.

Other FTP servers work, too, but PureFTPd is very easy to configure and has more features (quota support, bandwidth limiting, etc.). :)

Is it as secure as Vsftpd?

I think so. But I've never had any security problems with any FTP server so far...
