Hi, I installed ISPconfig on centos 5.1, now I decided that I need to have monitoring abilities so I have questions on how to install cacti. I found this guide: Cacti On An ISPConfig Server dated 2006-11-20 on Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10) http://www.howtoforge.com/cacti_ispconfig Is there a newer guide available for centos 5.1 or this guide will work?
Cacti is generally a pain in the butt to configure. Not hard to install, but once you get it installed, you still have to configure it, which isn't terribly intuitive. It monitors lots of different targets that behave differently, depending on what you're monitoring. So you have to set up each individual targets, that's the hard part. Reading the manual is tedious, but basically the best chance you'll have of having something besides empty graphs
You are right Thats why after some research I began to use PRTG it is easy to configure and since I run ISPconfig as virtual machine it is very easy to use. Uses about 7MB RAM and 25max when you are configuring it using GUI. Nice feature is Packet scanner that can trace all web port 80 and so on services on virtual server network card.
