I am having some weird issues with my DNS server, or so I think... I have a few friends that have been helping me test my new install of ISPConfig and my debian system... and they have been having some issues to where everything is working great, and then out of the blue, when they goto a site that is hosted on my server, it will pop up with the "It Works!" screen and nothing works for awhile. But after about 20 minutes or so, everything will kick back in and start working again... what's the deal? I have never had any of this happen on my end, which is weird because the server is a dedicated server, so I am not directly connected to it... Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, I have to get this system up and running smoothly by the end of this week, I have 6 websites I am launching for a client of mine and if it does not work then I will have to revert back to my old reseller account I have with a different host... My current setup is Debain 4.0 (etch), bind9, and ISPConfig 2.2.15 and I followed the Perfect Debian 4.0 guide found here: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_debian_etch
Can you post the real domain name of one of the domains that is acting funny? Do you host the DNS records for these domains yourself, or does someone else (e.g. your registrar) do it? Maybe the problem is that DNS changes can take up to 72 hours to propagate.
Well everything seems to be working fine now... I do host all the records, I think it may have actually been because of my host.conf file... What happened was I was working out of the wrong terminal and so the changes I made ended up locking me out of my server, well when the techs at the datacenter fixed it, they changed my host.conf file to read just "multi on" and now everything is working great, absolutely no problems at all... So I may suggest for people running multiple websites, instead of defining hosts, set it to multi on - now is there any security issues in running it this way?
