    Hi,
I'm new to DNS, as well as to this forum, so if I'm posting in the wrong place or there is already an answer to this I apologize.

So I have a VPS account from hostgator. The domain name was also registered there, so I shouldn't have to register name servers anywhere else. Over the past week I have tried every tutorial/process/method i could find trying to get the domain name resolved, but with no luck.

When i look my site up on dns checkers (dnssy.com) it says that the parent nameservers for my site (let's call it ns1.mydomain.com) exist, but that they have no A records. This result remains the same no matter how i configure bind or ISPConfig's DNS(even if i don't configure it at all).

So, does anyone have any tips on how to set the A records? Also, does this seem like a glue issue. I thought that it might be since I am setting up name servers on the same host that they are pointing to, but since the parent nameservers exist and are visible, I guess this is not the case. Any ideas?

Does the domain use hostgator's nameservers, or do you use your own nameservers?
