Hi: Me again I am trying to understand how to setup my ISPconfig 3 box to run primary dns services - in other words NS1 & NS2 point to itself. I know that this is not good practise, but just at the moment I do not have a choice. Thank you for your assistance!! Kind regards, Mentor
Okay, further to the above, it seems that we can only add one NS per zone upon registration - what's that about - ISPconfig 2 allowed two which I thought was a requirement. So that seems to be a bit of a problem. If someone could help me understand this that would be great as I am trying to take a system live at the moment and I am struggling with this. Thank you!! Hi Till: Yes, I became aware of that as I looked through the DNS management section. My question at the moment is about setting up the ISPconfig server to work as an NS as well. You have messed up something during install. If you follow INSTALL_* from downloaded installpackage, you will have mydns-ng-nameserver running with database backend. To this database Ispconfig3 will write any changes you make from controlpanel, and cahnges are available to rest of the world in minute. Off course, make sure firewall is not blocking port 53/TCP&UDP. To make your server to appear as two nameservers, just add another ip-adress to server and map this ip to some name, ie. ns2.yourdomain.tld in /etc/hosts. after that, publish this in your domains nameserver list.
