I need to understand about the server name and what does it do. First I did not have a domain for the box when I setup the box up, so I used server1.myserver.com when setting up the server(web server). I got a domain name for a web site I want to run. just say tomsauto.com . I setup the site I got the domain for, but now I am wanting to know, do I need to get a registered domain name for the server box and change the box to the domain I get for the box? If so do I just go to the perfect server and just modify it as if I was setting up the server after I register a domain for the box? Thanks for the help.;)

I suggest that you use a registered domain for naming your servers, and the hostnames (e.g. server1.yourdomain.com) should exist in DNS. Otherwise remote servers might refuse to accept emails from your server because they cannot find the hostname in DNS.

    Yes.
