Dual Boot Kali and Windows

    Hello all!

I am a super n00b who is trying to get the hang of Linux in general but more specifically Kali Linux at this time. I have dabbled a little but but mostly within a lab simulation environment. I would like to get a better feel for it as I would eventually like to begin penetration testing.

My question is: Should I consider dual booting Kali Linux alongside Windows 10 on my daily use laptop? Should/can I boot from an external drive like a thumb drive or external hdd? Optionally I also have an older laptop that I have been meaning to completely wipe, but it is quite a lot older and really would defeat the purpose of using one machine which is my intention.

Am I safe to try and install Kali Linux on my "daily driver" and are there any recommended configurations or precautions that I need to be aware of before I try and do this?

    Thanks,

I do not know. It is possible, but UEFI and Windows 10 may cause problems. Ubuntu 20.04 can be installed dual boot on Windows 10 machine with UEFI.
I do not know if you should. But you can.
If you are new to Linux, and you have a spare machine for practice, I suggest using the old laptop for installation practice. Once you get the hang of it try on your number one laptop.

I have plenty of this setup, with ubuntu though, so I think you should be fine, but do try it on your old laptop first as advised.
