So I've bought an HP 8120 with 2 320gig hard drives set up in Raid 1 to mirror each other. Question is, can Ubuntu be installed along side Vista considering raid 1 is active on this computer and end up with 2 operating systems which are both on raid 1? Can partitions be created while in Raid 1? If any one has a sept by step please advise how. Thanks
As you may know the HP 8120n system comes with an acredited chipset (Intel G965 Express Chipset) by Intel that supports Raid facilities. Therefore the controller, Intel 82801HR/HH/HO SATA RAID Controller, is hardware and the software that sits on top of the hardware is of course Intel's Matrix Storage Manager ver 6.2). So it is essentially hardware driven. That should answer your question. My question is simple, and I'll rephrase it. On ANY system, suppose you have 2 physical hard drives controlled by hardware and set in RAID 1 to mirror each other, it it possible to reverse, or go back to 2 independant hard drives thus taking them out of RAID 1 and going back to a non-raid set up WITHOUT losing any data on both hard drives? Has anyone got knowledge of this and can it be done? Cause I am in Raid 1 now and I want to install UBUNTU on a seperate Hard Drive and NOT affect Vista on the other so I'd end up with a dual booting system. 1 HD is Vista, the other Ubuntu. So either I can create RAID 1 partition with Ubuntu or I cant and need to have 2 seperate and independant hard drives.
