I'm hoping somebody can help me out with this one. I have an old dell desktop with two hard drives in it. On one I would like to install an OS, and the other I plan to share on a local network of two or three computers, both Mac and Windows. I'm looking for an easy to use distro and some sort of GUI to accomplish this task. All I really want this computer to do is share that hard drive on a network. Security is seriously not an issue. I just want it to be easy! Thank you in advance for your help.
Take a look at SME Server ( http://www.howtoforge.com/fileserver_with_sme_server7.1 ) or FreeNAS ( http://www.howtoforge.com/network_attached_storage_with_freenas ), or check out the tutorials in the Samba category: http://www.howtoforge.com/howtos/samba
Thank You! FreeNAS is excellent software and I would recommend it to anyone. It does exactly what I wanted and more. It's very easy to use... had it set up and working in about 15-20 minutes.
