Hi, So far I am pleased with my ISP Config setup, apart from one thing!!!! So far I have 5 domains registered within ISPConfig. The Main site domain (server name?) mix-project.co.uk - This is registered with ISPConfig and as the main server name! and the others: example1.com example2.org example3.info example4.org example5.com When I send emails from any account it comes up as [email protected] when it should be coming up as [email protected] 2 questions, Why is this happening? I have tried the following so far: Server has webmin on for configs so I went into Postfix's and tried to change the setting "What domain to use in outbound mail *Use hostname * Use domainname *use /etc/mailname /etc/mailname shows: mix-project.co.uk I have tried adding other domains but that didnt work, and would be a long way around things when adding new sites!! I have tried all of them, if i use Use domainname/hostname (forgot which one - one of them stops all main working) it will say its from example.com BUT NOT ANY OF MY SITES 2nd question how do i remove web*_ before the email address on outgoing mail? Sorry if this is confusing Please help
Ah right, is there a way to automatically do this on new email account creation as newbie users won't know what they are doing, or do you mean the actual Squirrelmail settings?
No, this can not be done automatically as quirrelmail does not know the sender address for a given username.
Oh Right, do any other mail clients work in this way? I dont like the idea that a client can send an email with @mix-project.co.uk on it.
No, thats the way email works. Everybody can use any sender address for email. If you create a new account in outlook, thunderbird or the MAC email program, you will always have to set the sender address when you create a mail account.
Ah right ok, shame , will just write a tutorial for my website with the line "anyone found using @mix-pro... risks their account being suspended" or whatever. Thanks
What about changing the hostname of your server from mix-project.co.uk to mail.mix-project.co.uk ? So its at least easier to differentiate from your own company addresses is someone forgot to change the address. Or use a hostname like customers1.mix-project.co.uk
