    Hey guys,

    I used this tutorial to set up a mail server: http://www.howtoforge.com/virtual-us...untu-14.04-lts. and everything went well until I tried to send an email from squirrelmail. When I tried to send the email this is what I got in squirrelmail:

    Message not sent. Server replied:

    Temporary authentication failure
    454 4.7.1 <[email protected]>: Relay access denied

    And here is the output from the log:

    May 19 21:42:11 b3hosting postfix/smtpd[23665]: connect from localhost[::1]
    May 19 21:42:11 b3hosting postfix/smtpd[23665]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from localhost[::1]: 454 4.7.1 <[email protected]>: Relay access denied; from=<[email protected]> to=<[email protected]> proto=ESMTP helo=<[192.168.0.108]>
    May 19 21:42:11 b3hosting postfix/smtpd[23665]: lost connection after RCPT from localhost[::1]
    May 19 21:42:11 b3hosting postfix/smtpd[23665]: disconnect from localhost[::1]

    I have looked everywhere and could not find this error anywhere for ubuntu.

    Thanks for your help

    Can you send email via default mail client, e. g. thunderbird?
    Did you configure squirrelmail correctly to use smtp authentication?
    Relay access denied is often given if you try to send unauthed.

    Hey guys,

    Thanks for your replies. I went back and checked my main.cf and the squirrelmail configurations. Yes I was able to send email from my Outlook and from my android phone. So that told me that it was an issue with the squirrelmail configs. I went into the smtp section of the config and set smtpauth to login. That did the trick. I am able to send email from all formats now.

    Thanks again guys.:):):):)
