Currently a client of mine has a 2003 server which is their domain controller, file server, RRAS server and email server. The problem at the moment is the email software is crippling the server and also the users PST files What I want to do is move it to a dedicated mail server, move their PST files to the new servers storage (135GB) and that way takes the additional load off the server. However this is only for 6-12 months until they can afford an exchange server. The box will host 100 users, spec is single quad xeon, 2gb ram, 146GB raid 5 I have been looking at the CentOS 5.1 guides and cant decide which one to go with. they will need email filtering for both Email and AV, also currently users connect via pop3 both internally and externally, however the external users use auth smtp to send mail out and internal users are automatically authenticated. so its between the following guides Virtual Users And Domains With Postfix, MailScanner, Mailwatch & MySQL On CentOS 5.1 or Mail Server Setup With Exim, MySQL, Cyrus-Imapd, Horde Webmail On Centos 5.1 Now it needs to be able to be administrated remotely both internally and externally via the web as I have to support this. Both are great, i would go with cyrus though case it is more efficient when it comes to issues like mailbox locking
Thanks, I will just have to try and figure out the install part as mentioned in the guide there is the assumption of a basic install, of which I don't know what that entails. I could just put 2003 server on, but the issue is cost and as long as the nix box can be web admin'd, thats enough
