    Hello,
I've decided to leave webmail round cube out, I removed it. Just using a email client on the desktop. Debian is running good further ISPconfig.
Please help to understand this correct. So at the Provider where I have the domain there the DNS have A records pointing towards the IP at strato, so like
    Code:
    @ A 123.123.123.123
    mail A 123.123.123.123
    pop A 123.123.123.123
    smtp A 123.123.123.123
    @ MX 123.123.123.123

I only changed the IP addresses there.
In ISPconfig I've added an Email domain:
    Code:
    server: h123456.stratoserver.net
    client: blablabla
    Domain: mywebsite.com
    Spamfilter: Normal

    created a mailbox:
    Code:
     [email protected] Password: bliebblieb
It does not work with desktop email client.
Not sure if needed, but created a DNS zone in ISPconfig and only added MX record
    Code:
    server: stratoserver
    zone: mywebsite.com
    NS: NS1.ywebsite.com
    added MX record
    Code:
    hostname: mywebsite.com
    mailserver hostname: mail.mywebsite.com
    active is on

And I tried the wizard, but I must be putting something wrong.
    Still not working.
Can please anyone explain what I'm doing wrong?
    Thanks a lot.

No, if your dns is handled by your provider, you will merely have the potential for inconsistent dns if you also set that up on your server.
What specifically doesn't work? You might go through this tutorial and see if it's resolved.

Regarding your DNS Records, the MX record should point to the server hostname (or the mail subdomain of your DNS zone) and not an IP address.

Thanks Jesse and Till, the MX you mean the MX at the domain provider right? which points to the mail.mywebsite.com on the VPS.
I had put the IP there, so now I changed it as you suggested.
I've also looked in the manual but I was a bit confused. I will try it out.

ok following the tut if I enter the command
    Code:
    host
    mywebsite.com has adress 123.123.123.123
    mywebsite.com mail is handled by 10 mail.mywesite.com.mywebsite.com.

    I got double website

Maybe missing dot at end of mail.mywebsite.com. My signature has link to DNS tutorial that explains this, among other things.

I've added the dot. Will check your tutorial too. Thanks!

***edit*** does this also take many hours before it works, like with DNS changes. Or should this be fairly immediately?

It is a dns change you made, so it can take a bit to be effective everywhere.

    Host refers now to:
    Code:
    mywebsite.com mail is handled by 10 mail.mywebsite.com

    reverse
    Code:
host 123.123.123.123 (ip of strato server)
    216.216.216.216.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer h123456.stratoserver.net.

in thunderbird t does not work yet. I'm quite confused reading the tuts what to do in ispconfig.
I think now I have to create a zone and use ns1.mywebsite.com as nameserver or should that be the strato one.
    Well I'll just try.

Which one is the name server? What did you enter as name server when registering the domain?
    If you have forgotten, command
    Code:
    whois mydomain.com | less
should show name server or nserver or similar lines that show which are the name servers.
My signature has also link to e-mail server setup Tutorial.

NS1-1.alfahost.nl and NS2-2.alfahost.nl is the nameserver of the provider where the domain is registered.
h123456.stratoserver.net is where the vps is hosted which should be then the FQDN if i'm correct.

The A record at alfhost points to the IP of the VPS.
The MX record at alfahost points to mail.mywebsite.com.

Then in ISPconfig I created the email domain mail.mywebsite.com. But also a zone with NS1.mywebsite.com.
The server is set as h123456.stratoserver.com

If name service is at alfahost.nl do not create name service zones on your ISPConfig. That just makes things worse.
Have you read the DNS and e-mail tutorials in my signature?
Try entering your real domain name in DNS and e-mail checker website tools, like https://intodns.com/ https://mxtoolbox.com/, maybe that makes the setup clear. I do not understand your name service setup, I hope you are not just randomly pointing things around.

Maybe it would be easier if you post your real IP and domain, so we can just check the current settings to see if DNS is set up correctly for it.

I have partly read your tutorials Taleman, A bit short of time due to work next to this. But I will continue on tat. I've also checked those links to check the dns settings which to me looked ok for the most parts.
The real domain is 5upmusic.com and IP 81.169.204.216.
    Thanks for your help guys.

The DNS setup is fine as far as I can see. the DNS servers for your domain are at alfahost.nl (ns1-1.alfahost.nl and ns2-1.alfahost.nl). You have a valid mx record that points to the mail subdomain, which then points to your IP address and you have a valid www (A) record too.

    Thanks for checking.
(meanwhile i'm checking the tut of Taleman)

Is this something to worry about? mail-error
    Code:
    Nov 15 20:20:30 h123456 postfix/postfix-script[16901]: fatal: cannot execute /usr/sbin/postconf!
Nov 16 11:35:39 h123456 dovecot: master: Error: service(auth): Process 5360 is ignoring idle SIGINT

    and email warn-log
    Code:
Nov 18 00:50:42 h123456postfix/smtps/smtpd[12059]: warning: hostname slot0.regr-ocumpo.com does not resolve to address 195.133.18.19: Name or service not known

    Or can I disregard?
    Thanks a lot.

I've read both, I've added DKIM to alfahost dns TXT record with default_domainkey as name, and put the whole key as written in the lower field into rdata.
    I'm getting this message:
    Code:
    Host default._domainkey.5upmusic.com not found: 3(NXDOMAIN)
Thing I dont understand is, do I or do I not create any record in ISPconfig?
    Thanks.

Yes you did, I know. But because I read it in the howto's, confuses me.

Seems Strato has port 465 and 587 closed. But probably it could work with other ports?

Not that it helps but in
    Code:
    nano /etc/postfix/master.cf
I had this line not uncommented, so removed the #
    Code:
    submission inet n - - - - smtpd

Oh man, I need to buy some glasses I think.
I forgot another # in master.cf, now it works great! :)
Wasted a lot of time just by not looking good.

    Thanks for your patience!
