I have read all of the other posts but still have been unable to get this to work.
    Centos 7.3.1611 64-bit
    Mariadb 10.1.23
    SELinux Disabled
Logged in via SSH as root user
I have followed this set of instructions: from hexblot.com about CentOS7, ISPConfig3 and Multiple PHP versions (can't post the link as I am new to HowToForge).
Mysql root user password has no special characters.
I have removed the database several times and restarted MariaDB and run mysql_secure_installation. I have run a yum reinstall mariadb server and the client.
The MariaDB root user is obviously able to authenticate as the DB is being created. I have manually loaded ispconfig3.sql and re run the install script and it complains that the table already exists. If I remove the table and rerun I get the ERROR: Unable to load .....
    Log file:
    Fri May 5 11:20:48 MDT 2017 - [ISPConfig] - /root/ispconfig3_install/install/lib/installer_base.lib.php, Line 254: WARNING: could not read in ispconfig3.sql
No functions have been disabled in PHP
CLI PHP Version is PHP 5.4.16
    I am using ISPConfig-3.1.2.tar.gz
