    Hello,
my starting point is a plain Debian (Wheezy) installation on VM VirtualBox: everything is fine; internet connection is available and functioning.

I am working on building up a mailserver using the components: Postfix, Courier, MySQL, Squirremail, so I refferred to the tutorial http://www.howtoforge.com/virtual-u...-courier-mysql-and-squirrelmail-debian-wheezy

It is really great, I could adhere to the procedure entirely, reporting no errors!
However, when I try to connect via web, using squirrelmail application, I get the following message:

ERROR: Connection dropped by IMAP server.

Is there any further (addional) setting not mentioned in the tutorial I should care of and adjust.

I am stuck now; I hope someone of you may help me on finding the solution to the trouble, and finally got the service up and running.

Thanks in advance for you assistance.

I am getting this exact same error, at the same spot in the How-To -- first test of logging into Squirrelmail.

I too would like to know how to proceed to find and correct the problem.

    Thanks.

try sending an initial email to that account, before an email lands into the mailbox it won't let you login...

I had already done that. I followed falko's tutorial to the 'T'. I see several others have hit a roadblock at this point. Inasmuch as it was my third attempt to install, all three ending with this same error, I am going to try a different walkthru. Thanks anyway.

Then you should post the exact error messages that you got in the mail.log. We can not help you if you do not post any details abou the problem:

Btw: ther is no issue with the guide, I use it several times a week to install servers, plain copy & paste of the commands and the resilting setups always work out of the box.

logs show imapd: LOGIN then immediate imapd: LOGOUT

I can't help but wonder if squirrelmail can't read the /home/vmail directory.

I get an authenticated login followed by an immediate logout by the imapd daemon???

I have checked and the welcome message is in the /home/vmail/cllsr.net/chris directory.

my webpage just shows a blank page after logging in.

    my logs show:

I have searched all my config files against this how-to and am not finding any discrepencies.
I have an error in the apache2 access.log:

The last GET shows a "500" error which isn't much help.

    Any help would be appreciated.
