This seems like such a simple question, I'm surprised I can't find the answer. Can I use external nameservers instead of running BIND? Why don't I just tell all my customers to register a domain name and point their nameservers to my ISPConfig machine. In that case, what do I do for the settings in DNSManager. The manual is quite silent on what all those blanks really do! Server: Server1 (what's that?) Domain (SOA) (ehh?) IP address (of what?) Nameserver1 and 2 (which would do what, exactly?) or the New Master and New Slave buttons. What do those do? Anyway, I'm just hoping that I can use my afraid.org nameservers and avoid all these unexplained blanks in ISP config. All I need is for the client's GET request to come into my Apache server, and I can take care of the rest.
You dont have to use the nameserver in ISPConfig. Just dont create DNS records in the ISPCOnfig DNS-Manager, thats all
