Installed perfect server Wheezy following https://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-server-debian-wheezy-apache2-bind-dovecot-ispconfig-3 Now fail2ban does not start when the filters copied from the tutorial are installed in jail.local. I have checked I copied the filter files with same names as in the jail.local. No error messages, not even when debug is 4. Seems fail2ban errors out before writing to log. When I remove the jail.local file fail2ban starts and runs, and does write logs. I did find similar issues by others, but did not see useful info for fixing this.
