i have entered all the config details correctly such as ipaddress(static), netmask, gateway and nameserver

im using a builtin nic which fedora core 5 recognises.

any help would be much appreciated

And how do you know it is not connected?

Tested some std. things like ping to the std gateway, doing an nslookup etc..?

so you even can't ping your gateway?

can you post the output of the ping to your gateway as well as
    ifconfig

i had the same problem, when i loaded fedora 5 i let it automatically configure and didnt ebnter the ip or anything, then used the instructions, on the perfect setup, it works a treat just a few minor probs but good now.
