Hi to all, I have a P4, with Intel Celeron dual core 3.06 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 80GB HDD and Fedora release 12 Constantine on it. The HUGE problem is that the system hang's-up. Last time was an hour ago after it worked almost 12 hours whitout problems. I have found the problem. I have restarted httpd around 05:50 and then it started to log again. Can anyone knows how to "repair" apache? For the moment i haved added a cron job to run from 2 to 2 hours and restard httpd. Thank you for your reply falko. I have done some research today and before reading the link you gaved me i have fond the following. When the server "dies" i have werry werry much httpd instances starded. I thing that could be from an httpd flood (port 80 flood) For that i am thinking to some iptables limit lines and a cron script to check how many httpd instances are stared and if they are more that X number to restart httpd. Do you think this is ok? I mean, i don't see why this would not work, but i want a second opinion. Thank you again for reading the post and aswering to it.
Hi there, Thank's for the link. I use Fedora 12 but that is not a problem. I have installed and configured monit to do what i need. I saw that there might be a but with monit. It does not do a killall -9 httpd or /etc/init.d/httpd stop . Instead of that it kill's the pid of the httpd. At a service httpd status or /etc/init.d/httpd status it show's httpd is stopped but at a ps aux | grep httpd you can see the httpd processes started and the webserver / web sites is/are accessible. For the moment i am leaving it as it is to see how it work's. I have stopped the cron job (i had one to restart httpd from time to time to avoid past problems). Thank's again for your answers.
Hi to all, Solved the last problem with httpd and monit. because monit does NOT kill all httpd instances and does just a PID kill i have made some modifications to work as it sould. First of all i have to mention that this tweak is made on a Fedora Release 12. In /etc/monit.conf i have this: Code: check process httpd with pidfile /var/run/httpd/httpd.pid group www start program = "/usr/bin/restart-apache" stop program = "/etc/init.d/httpd stop" if failed host 127.0.0.1 port 80 protocol http and request "/monit/token" then restart if cpu is greater than 50% for 2 cycles then alert if cpu > 70% for 5 cycles then restart if totalmem > 900 MB for 5 cycles then restart if children > 450 then restart if loadavg(5min) greater than 10 for 8 cycles then stop if 3 restarts within 5 cycles then timeout /usr/bin/restart-apache has the following inside: Code: #!/bin/bash killall -9 /usr/sbin/httpd; service httpd restart; Now monit does what i need and work's perfect. If is there someone with problems i will be glad to help him.
