I have no desktop environment. just the basic onscreen command prompt. is there a way to set up vnc for this? so that I can remote and use the prompt from another machine? or do you need a desktop environment?

VNC Fedora 7 Hey All, I need to access to my Fedora 7 machine with VNC from my Windows Xp machine, just like Alexxis, but the latest Tight VNC packages are for Fedora 6, and do not work properly with Fedora 7. As a matter of fact, when I installed them with yum, they removed the existing VNC packages (including the server and viewer) that came stock with Fedora 7. I reinstalled the stock VNC server and viewer. I opened ports 5900-5909 on the firewall, so that it was accessible from the LAN. After starting the VNC server with the gui services configuration tool , I noted that it was not actually running. What do I need to do to get this up and running, and make it accessible to the Windows machine(s) on my LAN?
VNC Works Now Good Morning, Just wanted to let you know that I solved my VNC mystery, and found a neat alternative in the process. I had to start the VNC server from the command line (I still don't know exactly why), and sucessfully logged on to my Fedora 7 machine. The alternative to this, which I found to be more secure with SSH tunneling by default, was No Machine NX Server from http://www.nomachine.com The setup was easier than VNC for the most part, and it integrated well with the NX client in Windows. Just be sure to follow the installation directions carefully!
