After following the perfect setup for Fedora 9 with ISP config, I find that there is no gui interface. I have added gnome and the x system via yum group install but I dont get the gnome gui interface. Am I missing something?
If I try to run startx manually I get a fatal server error saying

"Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove .tmp/.X0-lock and start again

    Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 keygiving up
xinit: Resource temporarily unavailable (errno 11): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
    [1]+ Done startx"

If I set the run level to 5 from 3 in /etc/inittab I get the gnome desktop on start up with curser but no icons or tool bars.

After reading various forums including this one I have tried setting up the the graphics using system-config-display but I am unable to view the whole of the screen as it looks like it has been magnified.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks Till, removing /SENDMAIL/ANY/SHELL from /etc/shells did the trick and I now have a nice new gui desktop. That has saved me hours of work.
