Hi I am trying to find a way to use my ispconfig server as an imap mail server, so all clients in the house can access the email centrally. But this ispconfig sever connection may be a bit unstable, so I can't use it for a direct mx dns entry (primary email server) So I want to use an external server and fetch emails from that using pop3, and download it to my ispconfig server. In other words, instead of letting the server be the email handler for my domain, I will host the email service on a more stable server, and let the domain mx record point to that external server, but I would like to transfer the mail to my internal ispconfig server using pop3, and present the emails to my user using imap. Is this possible?
You can e.g. use fetchmail or getmail for this purpose: http://www.howtoforge.com/debian_etch_getmail http://www.howtoforge.com/debian_etch_fetchmail
I need help. I have followed the howto setup a perfect fedora 8 server guide http://www.howtoforge.com/fedora-8-server-lamp-email-dns-ftp-ispconfig That went smooth. Then I have tried to setup getmail, as described in this article : http://www.howtoforge.com/debian_etch_getmail But I can't get the getmailcf file to work with getmail. If anybody could give me an example of a getmail configuration file that will work with the perfect fedora 8 / ISPConfig setup I would be a very happy man.
Sorry I have given up on this topic, and decided to take the easy step and install a SME Server. That worked for me.
