hi there, I'm new at this forum and this is my first post. Also i'm totally newbie to linux. I hav a Mandrake 2006 and Opensuse 10. I just want my server to be a file server to upload/download my important files wherever i go. Can anyone give a right tutorial/ step by step on how to this please..all i want is to have a secure ftp server. i hope u can help me guys. thanks, best

Then add an linux user "best" with the commands: useradd best -m -G users passwd best You can then login with the username best and the password you chose with FTP to your server to the home directory of best.
You could also use WinSCP ( http://winscp.net/eng/index.php ) on your Windows workstation/notebook to transfer files to and from your file server.
