About a 2 year ago I started a server of my own and followed the ubuntu guild for ispconfig 3. It was a very successful setup and I thank the person that wrote such an easy to follow guide. Now i had 3 website running and I had left the country for a few months for family reasons. They all ran for the time I was gone except 1 website which was the website for I would call the nameservers.

So i had my ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com and I had a website which was www.example.com. That website apparently expired and a company called sedo picked it up. When I made the attempt to get it back from them they wanted me to buy it back for $1500 which to me was robbery because I was paying $15 a year. I decided it was a lost cause and I would just purchase a new website.

My question is would I have to completely start over because my nameservers currently hold the name of that website as well as numerous other parts of my server. I was using a service to forward all request to my ip address converting them to the ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com.

Would i have to re-install ubuntu from scratch and start completely over?

Just use another domain for your nameservers and then update your DNS zones.

I will have to rename the nameservers though correct? as well as the ISP config name locations?
