    Hello,

I'm trying to set up a mail server using Debian 3.1 (sarge). I did follow instructions here: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_debian_sarge and after installing Debian, I installed ISPConfig for controlling the mail server (by following ISPConfig installation guide on ISPConfig homepage).

Now I have some dummy questions about controlling my mail server with ISPConfig:

    1) ISPConfig seems to contain many administration tools, but I haven't found anything which would have something to do with administrating mail accounts. Should I install some more applications for it?

    2) Is ISPConfig a wrong tool if I just want to keep my server only a mail server? If so, what should I be using?

    3) A bit off topic: I'm getting weird error type messages on my server which say something like this:

eth0: Transmit error, Tx status register 82.
Probably a duplex mismatch. See Documentation/networking/vortex.txt
    Flags: bus-master 1, dirty 3732(4) current 3735(7)
    Transmit list 00000000 vs. c18d4300.

    (follows 16 lines (0-15) like:
    0: @c18d4200 length 800001a7 status 000101a7 )

What could be causing this? It happens every time I log in to ISPConfig (via browser on another computer).

Thanks in advance if anyone could help me out.

ISPConfig configures your mailserver too, you will have to add a client, then a website and then add the email accounts to that website.

Thats all described in detail in the manuals.

Ok, I finally found and upgraded uebimiau to the mailserver, created customer, and site. On site I have created admin account and 2 user accounts, but I still cannot log in to mail on these accounts using [email protected] and password set on user. I can't figure out a way to make a connection between the site I created in ISPConfig, and uebimiau or my whole mailserver. I qess I could use howto-for-dummies in this case :p.

I have also had problems using https://www.address.com:81/ after installing ISPConfig. I just simply cannot get anywhere using https://www.address.com:81/ suggested by installation program. Only working way to log into ISPConfig is https://(my.lan.ip):81. Can't find out the source of the problem.

    Hi!

I almost got the same problem. After insalling the almost perfekt debian 3.1 an ISPConfig, I registerd clients and webs via ISPConfig.

The next step was creating Mail- Accounts. Ok. done. But then any tries to log into the Mail-Accounts using Sqirlmail or Thunderbird ended with the message:

    Code:
    Jan  5 17:05:44 linux1 imaplogin: LOGIN FAILED, ip=[::ffff:127.0.0.1]
In Thunderbrid i used the UserID webx_xx and in Webmail [email protected].

    What the hell is wrong?

    please help. thanks :)

    Ok. fixed.

    Try this:

    1. Log into Admin Interface
    2. Change to Administration (the very left button)
    3. expand server
    4. hit the first item (settings, dunno the exact english name)
    5. go to Email
    6. check Maildir
    7. svae settings

    Now everything works fine!

    good luck :)

With IMAP, you need to sent an initial mail to the newly created user in order to get rid of errors. Reason: the maildir structure is created by the MTA (Postfix), which is done automagically when the 1st email arrives. Your work-around has more or less the same effect.

Thank you Dy0nisys, now I can log into mail client with accounts I created for site.

However, mail accounts seem to be in form (user)@(my.lan.ip), and I am not able to send any mail:
"It was not possible to send this e-mail
SMTP Error: Recipient not accepted. Verify your relay rules"

    AND
Is it normal at Management->Server->Settings->DNS: Default Ns1 & DefaultNs2 values to be the URL given by me when I installed ISPConfig. That address cannot be loaded in browser (with https:// + :81 or normally)

What's in your mail log? The username usually is of the form web1_someuser.
