    Hi.
I needed to upgrade my server. Config is E6550, 2GB DDR2, Centos 5 i686 and Direct Admin on old server.
There is used Webmin, and Direct Admin standart services (apache, mysql, exim...etc)

I want to change server to Q6600, 4GB DDR2 with ISP Config.
Help to choice linux distributive for new server.

I know some Centos and used on desktop Ubuntu, and Debian sometimes.
    Is it needed x86-64?
I will use for setup and configuration the manual of course from http://www.howtoforge.com/ :)

Some howtos on howtoforge are specific to some Linux distribution and other are generic. So, if you are going to follow a howto , you probably will want to use the distribution referred in the howto if that is the case.

Anyway, regarding what distribution to use, you better try different distributions and decide yourself what feels good for you, that is, easier to configure, operate or maintain. x86-64 architecture is needed if you want to run 64-bit programs. Probably you’ll have to choose the programs according your server’s architecture.

Use one of your servers to setup virtual machine software so that you can run different distributions at the same time and make comparisons.

    Rgds,

If you want to install ISPConfig, I highly recommend Debian. :)
