I am looking to see if their is any other way of keeping your email on your mail server other than using IMAP from your email client. Can you compile a program or install a program or something???
This is not a OMG thing but I am certainly curious as I am having too much trouble from a couple of clients who say they have lost their email and I do not have the solution other than setting up a new machine or another hdd and sync the folders.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most email client software has an option when setting up the account to leave original on the server. However, you stand the chance of filling up your server with old emails.

How are they loosing the emails, I guess is the real question?

This could happen in a couple of different ways.
The Computer dies where the mail client is.
The server dies where the server software is.
I would like to see if I could have redundancy "I think that is right"
Like I can back up the server mail directory to another linux server or a NAS.
Also we really would not like to have human interference or intervention. Like done in the background with no human interference. You know. Human proof.

    Just looking for some input
