I'm using a vps with ubuntu 16.04. I installed ispconfig a few days ago. Everything was fine until today.

Suddenly my /home/admin/ directory is missing. When I am in the /home directory and enter ls -a, I just get .. and . . See the attached screenshot.

I think I might have caused this inadvertently, but I'm not sure. The ispconfig installation automatically sets up the administrative user as "admin". The user for my server is also named "admin". For security I changed the ispconfig user name to "perelon_sysadmin". Is it possible that changing the user name in ispconfig also changed the name of the server user with that same name or caused some kind of conflict?

If not, what else could have happened? What should I do?

By the way, the system still seems to work fine. The websites are still accessible on the internet, but using SSH I can't access anything that is (was?) in the /home directory.

no. The ispconfig 'admin' users exists in the dbispconfig MySQL database only, this is not a system user.

You probably deleted it by accident. Just create the directory again.
