Hi all. I am stuck so far, as I've gone through the ISPConfig installation on Ubuntu 8.10, and I can log into the control panel web page via IP address at port 81 just fine. I went through the ISPConfig 2.x - First Steps (Creating Web Sites, Email Addresses, Etc.) How-to to set up my first site, but can't browse it by name. I can browse to my public IP address from outside the local network, and get a shared hosting warning page, but can't browse or ping by name to my site. (This is also something definitely internal to this server configuration, as my DNS is hosted externally by my name registrar, and has been pointing to this IP address for over a month now. Pinging by name even resolves to the proper IP address, it just doesn't respond to any requests via names) Is there some enable switch I need to activate to actually turn on the web site hosting?? Please help & TIA Allen
That would seem to have been the problem I've been fighting all along! My ISP's nameservers are at similar IP addresses, and I guess that in all of these late night-bleary-eyed sessions, I've gotten so accustomed to seeing both those address and my own IP address block that they've blended together. I transposed a digit in my network address at my DNS host (GoDaddy.com), and never caught it, so now I will have to wait until DNS propagates again to see the results, which is just as well, since I wiped the server and started reloading (again) last night. Thank you very much!! As soon as DNS propagates, I can finally show my face at work! (Doing the happy dance!)
