Hi i have debian etch installed on my system and i have file in /var/etc file name ste.cfg and i have one user root but my friends used it and me to. We manage the server
While I edit the file ste.cfg on a linux platform how do I stop other users with a different IP from editing the same file at the same time?

Other users should get a warning if they try to edit the file while you're doing the same (at least if you and your friends are using vi). But they can decide to ignore the warning. Best thing is to instruct your friends to abort if they see such a warning.

I don't think so, but I'm not sure.
