A very simple but unsecure script for samba First things first, copy your original smb.conf to your home directory ( this is Fedora core not sure if works for all Distro's) cp /etc/samba/smb.conf /home/<your username>/smb.conf.old then edit smb.conf with what I provided below # Global parameters [global] workgroup = <your workgroup name> netbios name = < the name that you call this server> server string = Samba Server %v log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m max log size = 50 socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192 hosts allow = 192.168.1. /255.255.255.0 encrypt passwords = no smb passwd file = /etc/smbpasswd wins support = yes name resolve order = wins hosts lmhosts bcast [Public Folder] comment = Public Stuff path = /home/public guest ok =yes public = yes writable = yes printable = no Also make sure that samba is running /etc/init.d/smb start and if it is running then restart it /etc/init.d/smb restart and also make sure the firewall is configured to permit samba If this doesn't work for you then use google and this site for more information.
here check out this site as well. http://www-jerry.oit.duke.edu/linux/HOWTO/simple_simon_samba_howto.html
