I've only been 'into' Linux for just over a year and most of what I've learned has been from this site and from LinuxQuestions.

Now I've got a Fedora 8 box and I managed to get Sendmail working on it, but the new challenge is to move all that to a SuSE 10.x box with Postfix.

I see several articles about Postfix and Virtual mail etc, but I don't think any of them cover what I want to do, so here goes.

First, here's the setup. We have a GroupWise 7 Mail server, running on Netware 6.5 and all mail in and out is handled by that. it has 2 NICs and Border Manager. (We have several fixed IP Addresses to the outside world)

Then we have the Fedora box. This has 2 NICs as well. We use this machine to share the Internet Connection to the 14 other PCs in the building. We also have a Forum on it for our customers (Simple Machines) and a TTExpress Help Desk.

If a user logs into the HelpDesk and posts a Trouble Ticket, Sendmail is configured to reply to the user and send a message to the 5 people doing Support Work from home via the GroupWise server. It has only SMTP and NO POP3 or iMAP, so really we only have to worry about ONE mail server. All responses are posted to the Trouble Ticket which they see over the web and Sendmail notifies them that there is a response. If they need to contact us directly they mail to the person's account on the GroupWise server, which then redirects it to the appropriate person.

It's been working now perfectly for 2.5 years.

    Now the fun starts.

    1. I need to be able to get Postfix working on the new SuSE server. I've "fiddled" with it, but getting nowhere fast.

    2. It seems to have Sendmail as well which you can access via Postfix (dunno how this works), but TTExpress uses Sendmail to respond to Trouble Tickets, so I need to be able to do that as well.

I've got the SuSE 10 Server working perfectly. I have installed the Forum on a Virtual Host, MySQL, PHP, and Perl on it. I have installed the Help Desk software. I've also added Deny Hosts and Fail2ban and we have a NetGear Wireless Router on the external connection, which gives us wireless for the Laptops and also acts a part of the Firewall solution. All I have to do now is get Postfix to work and find out how to send mail via Sendmail and I'll be a happy man

Maybe Falko or someone could do a nice simple HowTo just to setup Postfix on a SuSE 10.x box, and if someone could explain how I can send mail from TTExpress using Sendmail, it would be appreciated.

BTW, I also installed Webmin, but there are so many postfix options the mind begins to boggle.

    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I'm not "compatible" with SUSE. I'm always having problems with SUSE, therefore I avoid it when possible.

I know how you feel. It's a Novell "thing" seems they like to make everything they touch as difficult to install and maintain as possible.

But... the customer is always right and some customers use it and I have to live with it.
