How to Setup WordPress Multisite Domain in ISPConfig

I am trying to understand how to setup a proper wildcard domain in ISPConfig for a WordPress Multisite installation.

I have created the wildcard for my domain in my DNS. However the wildcard seems to only work if I create an A record per sub domain created by users or by creating an alias domain per sub domain created by users.

My question is am I missing something? Surely WordPress MU with sub domain should be an automated process. Otherwise admins will never know what domain users are creating?

    Thanks.

All you have to do is:

    1) Create a DNS A-Record for * in DNS that points to your server IP.
    2) Select auto subdomain * in the website settings.

You should be aware that this does not work with Letsencrypt SSL as LE does not support wildcard certificates yet. So when you need SSL, then you either have to add the specific subdomains that you want to use to the site or you buy an SSL cert from an SSL authority that sells wildcard certs.
