In order to share sessions between two sites using Fast-CGI, I had to edit their .php-fcgi-starter files and add "umask 0002" (I also had to remove "-d session.save_path=/var/www/clients/clientX/webX/tmp \" from one of the sites). (see http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53392) How would this be done when using PHP-FPM?
It's just a temporary solution. Actually I might look into using memcached, because there are other benefits (namely speed). Thanks.
On second thought, I'd prefer not to use memcached right now, as it's not a simple solution (see issues here). So my question remains.
