    The smtp user and password are the same then zhe pop3 user and password.

    But please post the exact error message from the error log and not the error message that your mail client displayed.

    We are having the same issue using Thunderbird. The interesting thing is I setup one of our users from a remote server in California and this worked. Outlook Express, Thunderbird, and Evolution but from the office trying to send email from either application we get the following error:

    Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 5.7.1 : Relay access denied', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC79

    Any suggestions?

    We also researched the following;

    This is important to anyone who has a website hosted on a 'shared hosting' service, which the vast majority of websites are. It is important because when you are on a shared hosting system, there is usually one instance of a mail server that is providing email services to a number of those sites. That email server has only ONE IP address. That means that all those sites under each server all have the same IP address, and that's where the problem comes in. That one IP address is registered in the DNS system to only one domain, usually the domain of the hosting company or one they have set up for email use. Since many websites are using that one mail server, they can't all have that one IP, it's against the rules of the DNS system. In that system, each domain 'is suppose to' have a unique IP address. As you can see, if all the hosted domains using that one email server are sending emails identifying themselves as the IP assigned to the one email server, all those emails from all those domains EXCEPT the one the email server is registered to, run the risk of being rejected

    Thats absolutely normal and no mail is being rejected. This applies to maybe 80 or 90% of all domains, so nothing to worry about.

    Every email server has its own hostname and uses only this jostname to send emails and the reverse dns record of the IP must point to this IP. As long as this is true, no other mailserver will reject emails for any virtual domain hosted on this server.

    Beside that, this has nothing to do with your error message.

    Back to your original problem.

    1) Make sure that your server is configured exactly as described in the perfect setup guide.
    2) If you have done this, enable smtp auth and you will not get this error message.
