Part of a project I am involved in is the design and configuration of a small network. The clients involved unfortunately have to be Windows XP based but the servers can be what ever I want to use. I have spent some time using SUSE Enterprise Servers 9 and 10 as well as Ubuntu Edgy but I am basically a novice in both. I have also been considering Novell Netware 6.5 as that is what a friend uses but I am still none the wiser.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom to impart on a linux newbie who hasn't got a clue?

What network services do You need ?
For me SuSE is more userfriendly then other distributions but I'm starting to like Debian after reading lots of tutorials here and on other places on the Internet.
    I recomend SuSE.

For servers, I'd always recommend Debian because of its package manager, stability, and reliability. :)
