im not getting mail

I dont know what the deal is, I am just not getting mail.

I setup ispconfig on linux to move away from windows.

I am testing my mail on the linux box using an ip address and not a domain name. Just testing locally within the lan at first.

I am using [email protected]. I have the account setup and it checks just fine, so the user and password seem to work out really good.

I sent a test email to itself in hopes that it would send to itself and receive it to let me know the interoffice round trip was a success.

It goes somewhere and doesnt come back.

And I dont know why I am not receiving it in the proper place. Why is it going to digerati? This is also the UID 500 account that I posted about earlier.

Please help.



I CAME BACK FOR AN EDIT

One more note is that I couldn't stand how ispconfig wanted to put things like web3_u1 or whatever in from of all my usernames. I wanted simple username and password for stuff so they can enter in their email clients stuff like user@domain and not have to remember anything else.

I took care of this in ispconfig at the the MANAGMENT/SYSTEM CONFIG/SETTINGS/ISP MANAGER/ then on USER PREFIX, I just deleted what was there and all my names look correct.

Hope this is not the root of my problem.

 

Removing the user prefix is not recommended and can cause your problem.
What's in /etc/postfix/local-host-names, /etc/postfix/virtusertable, and /etc/aliases?

If I add the prefix back, whats the simplest best way so that all my users can use a simple username to login to webmail and configure their email clients.

I want to be able to use [email protected]

 

That is not easily doable with ISPConfig.
There have however been several hacks for certain server software to translate the "easy" logins [email protected] into the more "complicated" webXX_user ones. IIRC you just have to search the forum.
