Hi there! The setup in question is the root server in my signature. The problem is: I have created a mailbox for a friend to use via IMAP. He uses a Mac, I use a PC (WinVista). When I log in, I can pick up the mail, no problem. When he tries, he gets an error saying that the authentication failed. The mail.log on the server agrees, by stating: Code: Jan 25 12:38:39 server1 imapd: LOGIN FAILED, user=web30_info, ip=[::ffff:111.111.111.111] I have seen screenshots of all the settings... He uses the right port, the right server and the right login. What could be causing the error? Any ideas anyone?
Any other errors in the logs? Did you send an initial email to that account so that the Maildir got created?
is there a log I need to check other than /var/log/mail.log ? As for the test e-mail, yes I did send that. The weird thing is, it works with my computer, doesn't with his.
Just checked: My friend uses Mail 3.5 (Mac OS X 10.5.6) and Opera´s browser internal E-mail programm. Both with the same result.
Then I'm at my wit's end. Unfortunately we don't have a Mac to test with. One last idea: does the Mac use some kind of personal firewall? If so, can you switch it off and test again?
