If a new site is created with ispconfig3 this default index.html is created in the web folder. How can I change the index.html to my own design?

You can find index.html file in:

    /usr/local/ispconfig/server/conf/index/

There you can find all the index files in different languages. In your case the name of the file is standard_index.html_en

    Access Denied

When I want to go to this folder I get permission denied now. I upgraded to 3.0.2
    /usr/local/ispconfig/server/conf/index/

You will need to be 'root' or 'ispconfig' user to change the files, or be able to change the file permissions. It appears the default is 750.

Will these files be overwritten by an update?

The files in /usr/local/ispconfig/server/conf will probably be overwritten by an update.

The files in /usr/local/ispconfig/server/conf-custom shouldn't be overwritten. Do your modifications here.

At least this is my understanding of it. :D
