I have a server with 3 live sites. Can I install ISPconfig on that server and use it to manage these sites?
I guess my question is really, is it a simple task to make that happen?

No, this will not work. You must start from a fresh and empty system. Best is you set up a new server with ISPConfig, create the sites in ISPConfig and then copy over the website contents and databases to the new server.

Thanks. I removed the sites and kept backup of my /home/ folder and DB in /root/.
I would rather not rebuild the entire server, so I hope this will do?

I won't recommend it; the installation is likely to fail when you do not start with an empty system, as ISPConfig will not overwrite all config files; it just modifies them. And if there are any config files you modified already and their content is not compatible with the setup that ISPConfiug uses, it will fail. But you can try it of course, if it won't work, then you'll have to do a full reinstall.
