The tutorial should work for i386 as well, but please make sure that you install the i386 rpms for RPMforge and EPEL in chapter 7.

You can ignore this because it will be stopped anyway.

You must login with the email address of an account created through ISPConfig and the password of that email address.

The best thing is to install fail2ban and to configure it to block SSH break-in attempts.

In addition to that I'd install rkhunter and chkrootkit.

one more question for ssh block

    hello mr/Falco again
    one more question.
my server is kind of private server , so i don't need 3 things : SSH,FTP,Webmail
I use my own Ftp and mail, so do i still need them ? if i don't then which file to modify
to block them : jail.conf or jail.local because i saved jail.conf as jail.local as advice
from fail2ban so i don't modify the original ? so that is another question, also there is fail2ban.conf so which one to modify ?
and i looked in jail.conf (jail.local copy) there is :
    ssh-iptables
enable = true should i make it false and do the same to ftp and webmail ? or should be another way to block three of them ?
I just wonder if it is safer this way not to use 3 of them and block them.
Thanks alot again and sorry for bobbarding you with alot of questions in one time, i am just trying to shorten the time i take from you to answer my post.
    I again appreciate your help.
    Thanks very much

You can stop your mail and FTP server by using their init scripts in /etc/init.d/. You can uninstall webmail if you don't need it. I strongly advise against stopping SSH - you never know when you need it!

According to http://www.howtoforge.com/fail2ban_debian_etch, it's best to create jail.local and put all needed services there.

If you don't stop SSH, I'd leave enable = true.

If you don't use FTP and mail, you can set enable = false.
