    Hi there

Please bare with me, as this is my first ever Linux installation. I using a nice guide 'The Perfect Desktop - Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala)' and have tried to go through this forum looking for clues about the below topic.

I'm trying to install a Ubuntu on a clean and new harddrive, not upgrading any existing installations of Linus or Windows.

Unfortunate i cannot get past the section with 'preparing diskspace' as the Ubuntu installer cannot any 'harddrives'. Accounding to the 'error message' the installation seems to lack a 'Root File System' and it seems the 'help' i found on this forum and while using google makes me even more confused, but on the good side it introduced me to a number of functions in Ubuntu like Gparted, i have created some partitions of various kind, even tried to mount a few of these partitions.

Can anyone please link to a installation guide, which include making the harddrives ready, or give me a hint how to make these harddrives ready?

    Thanks
    Michael Andersson

Do other distributions recognize your hard drive?

Will try with either a Mandriva or a Fedora distribution or both before going further with Ubuntu.

    Thanks
