Instant Messenger Blocker

Hi All
I want to block IM chatting (which can be allowed at specific time ) on all the machines on my network ? Do anybody have idea of any such open source softwares such that this operation can be managed centralized ? I cannot have it installed on the desktop pcs since i have to permit root access to my users on their respective systems. So i prefer for a server level blocking..

Try IMspector http://www.imspector.org/ i have not tested it myself but i think it can do what you want.

you could block the ports and open it again... however this works only wan <-> lan.. but not inside the lan (except if you block the ports there also)
