Hi, I'm running an Ubuntu Dapper server, and I've spent a lot of time trying to figure out the MX records. In ispconfig, I have set the folowing settings in the DNSmanager Code: A IP-Adresse Hostname 203.30.71.26 www 203.30.71.26 mailserver CNAME MX Mailserver Hostname mailserver.aaa-paints.com Then I run it through pingability and get this error http://pingability.com/zoneinfo.jsp?domain=aaa-paints.com "The MX record value 'mailserver.aaa-paints.com' does not have an IP Address (A) record. You should add one." Where would I go to manually check to see if the A record has been made? I checked the configurations in the bind directory and the A records correctly give mailserver the right IP. Edit - I swore I made this thread in the ISP config forum..
This tutorial: http://www.howtoforge.com/ispconfig_dns_godaddy shows how to create DNS records in ISPConfig.
Thanks for the reply. I didn't set up my own NS, I am using Godaddy's NS to point to my IP as I don't have two IPs to do this, just one. Is this the problem? Or is it because I changed Godaddy's MX records to point to my mx record about 30 hours ago. would you recommend I wait another 12 hours to see if that is the problem?
If you use external DNS servers for your domain, then it doesn't make sense to create DNS records for that domain in ISPConfig (because your ISPConfig server is not authoritative for your domain). Your MX record looks ok now, but you don't have an A record for dna-paints.com. I think it's a good idea to change that.
