Is swap needed on a headless server running kvm?

  1. Hi, I want to run a Ubuntu 16.04.1. LTS server with KVM. My server has 64 GB RAM. The problem is that I have a 512 GB SSD disk and I read that the swap should be the same size as the ram, but that would waste to much space on my SSD disk. So I'm wondering if I need swap?

Depends on what you do. On my notebook with 512GB SSD and 16GB ram I don't use any swap. If you assign enough ram to the VM, then you shouldn't need swap either.

  3. I used 4GB for swap. It's lvm so if needed I can expand. But I thing I don't need it.
