    Hi !

Anyone can confirm - upgrade from SuSE 11.4 to 12.1 with ISPConfig 2.2.40 is smooth? Any problems?

Its our working server, I can't stop it for more then a couple of hours at weekend.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I think you should try this on a test machine before. ISPConfig 2 has problems with some of the newest distributions (e.g. Ubuntu 11.10), but I don't know if this is true for OpenSUSE 12.1 as well.

    Hi, Falko !

What are your plans to release new version of ISPConfig 2 ?
    Or V2 considered obsolete?

ISPConfig 2 reached end of life as some software that is required for ISPConfig 2 (like Apache 1.x) can not be compiled anymore on latest Linux distributions. There will be no new ISPConfig 2 versions released. You should consider to switch to ISPConfig 3 on new servers.

    Hi, Falco,

I felt it will be so. Is there any way to automatically migrate at least e-mail users from v2 to v3? Or everything had to be started from scratch?

Is there any manual which could explain the best ways of such migration? This is working server of our company, I can't change anything unless 100% sure that after a couple of hours everything will work as before.

ISPConfig 2 and 3 use a completely different server setup (Linux system users vs. virtual users). The username in ISPConfig 3 is the email address of the email account and not a separate username, but there is a fallback mode in ISPConfig 3 to use separate usernames though.

It might be possible to develop import scripts for the email addresses as ispconfig 3 has a remote API, but I'am not aware of existing scripts for that purpose.

And what about web sites and DNS configuration? Also complete incompatibility between v2 and v3?

Web sites are different as well, but you can copy website contents and mysql databases over to the new server of course. Same with email mailbox contents (imap folders) when you use maildir format in ispconfig2. For DNS zone files there is a import tool available in ispconfig 3.

Is it possible to install v3 on the same server where v2 already is? So if something went wrong, I could just stop v3 and continue wit v2.

Thats not possible as they use a completely different system setup.

My recommendation would be (if possible) o use the current server with ISPConfig 2 until you want to switch to a new server hardware and then install ispconfig 3 on this new server hardware and migrate the accounts then, so you have the old server as fallback until everything is migrated to the new system.
