I just read the thread mailman on ISPConfig 2.2.3 on debian, which appears to be a set of instructions on how to make mailman work with an existing ISPConfig installation (as opposed to a fresh installation). The thread is rather outdated and sort of ends quite abruptly. Can those instructions be used to make mailman work with the current stable version, which is 2.2.21 at the time of this writing?
Yes and no. There is no problem by using Mailman with ISPConfig 2.2.21, but it will not be integrated. So you will have to use the mailman interface to manage your lists. You will have to create the list yourself (In ISPConfig you can allow a user to have X lists and create them until X is reached). There will also be no check to see if the list is not using a name already in use by a Mail or an alias, etc. So globally, Yes you can use Mailman, but there will be no Interaction with ISPConfig.

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean exactly, because mailman is completely new to me and so far I also haven't seen any mailman related functionality (lists or otherwise) in ISPConfig. But I'll dive into that as quickly as I can. I also have the distinct feeling that you describe something that I'm not neccessarily looking for. What I would like, is the ability to generate mailings to my ISPConfig users. For instance to inform them about server maintainance and similar things. What I don't want, is give my ISPConfig users the ability to send out mailings themselves. Could you elaborate a bit on the effect of the changes you propose in the thread that I mentioned and what they will enable me to do?
The List feature are only included in the dev version (currently 2.3.3). This is not only an admin function (as what you need). It make possible for each customer to create mailinglist for his need (his customers, members of work group, or an organization) I think that what you search is more "Mail all users" function.

I think it's a bit of an overkill. All your customer are stored in the ISPConfig DB, so a simple matter of exctracting this E-Mails and sending them a mail. A PHP mail form will actually do the job in my point of view.

Little Question Hello, I have a simple question for the future: Would it be possible to integrate Mailman in a running installation by update to the next version of IspConfig? That would be wonderful! Igor
If by "next version of IspConfig" you mean the dev release, than it's possible, but as it's an update and not a new install you will have to execute some manual steps. But when the current dev branch will be released as stable, there will be a script to make it manually.
Mailman alternative? I needed to set up some list management software for one of my clients on ISPConfig. I found Dada Mail a viable alternative to Mailman, if you just want to have a list running under one domain, i.e. you aren't looking to make list facilities available to any domain as I think can be done with Mailman in the 2.3.3 dev version of ISPConfig. It can all be installed via FTP and configured in a browser. Should take no more than an hour or two for to get a finely tweaked installation. Can be run as an announce only or discussion list (with supplied plugin). Very versatile bit of software IMHO See it at http://mojo.skazat.com/ You can enter the email addresses of your users straight in or import from a csv file.
